Ethereum to launch testnet with Shanghai-Capella upgrade

The Ethereum team announced the launch of a public testnet on February 7 to test the Shanghai-Capella upgrade.

There were some config issues in launching the network, but the devops and client teams are looking into it. The Shapella fork is planned for Tuesday 3pm UTC 👀

The main function of the upgrade is to enable withdrawals from Ethereum staking, implemented by EIP-4895.

According to Tim Beiko, one of the lead developers, the team is currently removing the final technical hurdles to implement the upgrade. After launching the upgrade on the Sepolia testnet in March, the new functionality will be tested on Goerli.

This will be the final test before the code is deployed on the mainnet.

As a reminder, in November 2022, developers launcheddevnet to test the function allowing validators to withdraw cryptocurrency from the Ethereum deposit contract.
