Aztec developers announced the shutdown of the Aztec Connect Layer-2 network for scaling Ethereum.

From March 21 the project will stop accepting deposits into the protocol’s smart contracts. A year after this date, Aztec will stop sending rollups — ‘accumulative packs’. Users will be able to withdraw funds only through specialized software.

The team will keep the protocol code and the SDK publicly available.

The network was the project’s second iteration of a scaling solution after the version named Aztec 1. By the end of 2023, developers plan to launch a new variant of the protocol — Noir, built on the eponymous programming language.

In April, the project will open a grant program for app developers.

In December 2022, the London-based startup raised $100 million in a Series B round.

A year earlier, Aztec raised $17 million.
