Solana Sets Date for Saga Smartphone Sales

Sales of the Saga smartphone from Solana Labs, oriented toward Web3, will begin on May 8. Pre-ordered devices are already being prepared for shipment.

The Solana Mobile phone costs $1,000. Saga is built on the Android operating system and features 512 GB of storage, two rear cameras, a 6.67-inch OLED display and a fingerprint scanner.

The standout feature, the company said, is the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS). It is a set of user-facing overlays that integrate Web3 functionality into the phone’s hardware and software.

SMS includes built-in security algorithms that enable sending, receiving, exchanging and storing digital assets on the device. Thus, the Solana smartphone can be used as a hardware wallet.

The technology also supports the Seed Vault private key storage protocol, which places them in a dedicated enclave separated from the wallet, apps and the operating system.

Solana Labs explained that SMS also provides developers with a set of libraries and API, enabling the creation of mobile decentralized applications for devices running Android.

Saga has its own store for decentralized applications. The company noted that it does not intend to charge additional fees, as other smartphone manufacturers do.

In January Solana opened Saga pre-orders for users in 33 countries.

In February, the company announced the closure of two Solana Spaces stores in New York and Miami.

In April, Solana developers introduced the state compression technology, which allows a significant reduction in fees when minting non-fungible tokens.
