Optimism team renames its network to OP Mainnet

Developers of the Ethereum-layer-2 network Optimism have renamed the project to OP Mainnet to separate the network from the community and its ideals.

It’s official: the chain formerly known as Optimism is now OP Mainnet!

This distinction makes clear the delineation between the OP Mainnet blockchain and the Collective, vibe, and ethos that “Optimism” encompasses.

According to Defi Llama, the total value locked in OP Mainnet stands at $800 million.

Earlier in June, the project developers activated the Bedrock upgrade. Since then, the average transaction fee in the L2 network fell by 56%, from $0.57 to $0.16.

In the same month, the developers of the BNB Chain launched the opBNB testnet — EVM-compatible scaling solution for OP Mainnet-based second layer.
