
Bank of Russia sets out safeguards for digital ruble transactions
The Bank of Russia prescribed to banks the requirements for information protection of operations with digital rubles.
The regulator’s document on its website sets out the minimum level of cryptographic protection required for exchanging electronic messages.
Financial institutions must use electronic signatures, the certificates for which are issued by the Bank of Russia’s certification authority.
Also set out are the requirements for online banking apps where digital ruble transactions will take place.
In July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law CBDC on the introduction of a national CBDC and the creation of the corresponding electronic platform.
Russian citizens will be able to use the digital ruble in 2025–2027.
