Arbitrum team opens path to L3 networks on mainnet

The Arbitrum company Offchain Labs, behind the L2-protocol, has opened access to the Orbit software stack for creating third-layer blockchains on the mainnet.

In June, project developers gained the ability to deploy devnet-solutions using the tool. Transaction support was provided through the Arbitrum Goerli test network.

According to the statement, the tool provides “a proven alternative data-availability solution, ultra-low transactions costing less than a cent without compromising the level of security and minimizing trust”.

Developers can also use the Stylus, which enables creating smart contracts using popular programming languages such as Rust, C and C++.

The Offchain Labs team noted that the Nitro tech stack enables changes to the Orbit network without approval from the DAO. This concerns features implemented for free access to validation, MEV, further cost reductions and other goals.

Coldera, AltLayer and Conduit platforms stand ready to support developers in deploying L3 solutions as providers of the Rollup-as-a-Service offering.

In July, the Arbitrum DAO allocated 770 million ARB tokens (~$783 million at the time) to fund ecosystem development.

Following the community vote concluded in October, grants totaling 49.6 million ARB (~$40 million) were awarded to 29 projects.
