ING Germany Launches Trading of Exchange-Traded Bitcoin Products
ING Germany opens crypto-focused ETN trading for retail clients.
The German branch of ING bank has opened access for retail clients to exchange-traded notes (ETNs) focused on cryptocurrencies. These instruments allow investment in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana through a familiar banking interface.
The products are issued by providers 21Shares, Bitwise, and VanEck. These are physically backed instruments traded on regulated exchanges via the Direct Depot platform.
The main advantage of the new service is the elimination of the need to manage private keys and external wallets.
According to VanEck Europe CEO Martijn Rozemuller, the partnership has lowered the entry barrier to the industry. Investors have gained access to digital assets within standard custodial structures with transparent fees.
ING clarified the tax nuances. Investments in ETNs in Germany are taxed similarly to direct cryptocurrency purchases. Holding a position for more than one year exempts profits from capital gains tax.
However, the bank warned of risks. The client notice highlighted high volatility, the lack of intrinsic asset value, and the possibility of total loss of funds in the event of issuer bankruptcy.
Moscow Exchange’s Plans
In Russia, trading platforms are also expanding their options. In 2026, the Moscow Exchange plans to launch three indices and futures on Solana, XRP, and TRON. The platform is also considering adding perpetual contracts on Bitcoin and Ethereum. This was revealed by Maria Silkina, the chief manager for the derivatives market product group at the Moscow Exchange, during a broadcast on RBC.
To launch a futures contract, a basic asset—a corresponding index—is required. The calculation methodology and data publication for new coins will be the first step.
The new contracts will be cash-settled (without coin delivery) and will have monthly expirations. Only qualified investors will have access to them.
After expanding the range of pairs, the Moscow Exchange intends to introduce perpetual futures and options. They will be based on the same indices as the monthly contracts.
Back in April 2025, media reported on a MiCA-regulated stablecoin from ING bank.
