Police officers from the Abkhazian Ministry of Internal Affairs stopped the operation of a large cryptocurrency-mining farm comprising 471 devices.
The equipment was located on the first floor of an unoccupied building in the Abkhazian village of Achigvara.
On the second floor of the building, police found two additional rooms set up to house ASIC miners.
Law enforcement disconnected the farm’s power transformer and sealed the equipment.
As reported, in late 2020 the Abkhazian Cabinet of Ministers banned cryptocurrency mining and restricted the import of equipment for its execution until 1 June 2021. Temporary blocks affected mining-pool sites.
In January 2021, the Abkhazian parliament proposed introducing fines for illegal electricity consumption amounting to about 1.5 million rubles per megawatt. Later authorities spoke of introducing criminal liability for illegal mining.
