Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, has disclosed on the Steam page for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that generative AI was employed in the development of the latest installment of its flagship shooter.
This move follows a new requirement for platforms to reveal the use of artificial intelligence in game creation.
“Our team uses generative AI tools to develop some in-game materials,” Activision stated.
The company did not specify which elements were generated using neural networks.
Call of Duty is one of the largest franchises in the video game industry. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became the best-selling game in the US in 2024, despite its release in late October.
Previously, players suspected that some loading screens and “calling cards” in Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 3 (2023) were created using AI tools.
Am I blind or did we just catch Call of Duty Activision using AI AGAIN in Black Ops 6?!?!
I can see 5 fingers but no thumb, which I am guessing is on the other side of this tablet thing the girl is holding…

In January 2024, Valve updated the form developers fill out when submitting a game to Steam, adding a section for AI-related data.
“Valve will use this information during the game’s review process before release. We will also display a significant portion of your responses on the game’s Steam store page so users are aware of how AI is utilized,” company representatives noted.
Back in 2021, Valve banned games featuring blockchain, NFTs, and cryptocurrencies from Steam.
