In early May, Green was the victim of a phishing attack, resulting in the loss of four non-fungible tokens, including BAYC #8398. The latter was supposed to be a character in the actor’s new show, White Horse Tavern.

The stolen ‘Sleepy Ape’ was subsequently sold to user DarkWing84 for 106.5 ETH (~$271,400 at the time). In an interview with BuzzFeed, the collector claimed to have acquired the NFT stolen from the actor "on legitimate grounds".

Green, in turn, threatened DarkWing84 with legal action. Later the parties agreed to a personal meeting. It is unclear how the conversation ended, but the collector agreed to return the asset.

According to Etherscan, Green transferred 165 ETH to the DarkWing84 address — more than $286,000 at the rate at the time of writing.

OpenSea flagged BAYC #8398 as linked to "suspicious activity". This means the token cannot be bought or sold on the platform. As a result, the parties decided to conduct the deal on the NFT Trader marketplace.

In May 2022 the High Court of Singapore imposed a ban on the sale of BAYC NFTs as part of a dispute over a loan agreement.
