Adobe develops tools to animate photographs and create deepfakes
Adobe, the software developer, unveiled tools Project In-Between and Project Morpheus that enable ‘bringing photographs to life’ and the creation of deepfakes. The demonstration took place at the Adobe MAX conference for designers.
Project Morpheus is based on the Neural Filters function, introduced in 2020. The tool is capable of automating frame-by-frame video editing to deliver stable results, the company said.
In the demonstration clip, one Adobe employee edited his own video, in which a neutral expression was changed to a smile. He said the process took only a few seconds, with most of the work performed by the AI algorithm Adobe Sensei.
Project In-Between allows from two or more images to create a short realistic animation, resembling living photos on iOS devices. The photos must be similar to each other, for example, a series of shots from the same scene.
Adobe says this feature can also be applied to video to create slow-motion clips.
It remains unclear whether the experimental tools will reach broad public release. The company заявили that not all showcased features may reach release:
“Project Morpheus is a way to acquaint ourselves with experimental and promising technologies from our laboratories and engineering teams. These experimental ideas are not always intended to be included in products”.
The company stressed that it recognises the importance of balancing innovation with responsibility, “so that technologies are used for the benefit of our customers and society”.
“In developing AI we follow the principles of accountability, responsibility and transparency”,

In September, scientists explained, how to tell a real photograph from a deepfake.
In August, MegaFon used a fake Bruce Willis in an advertising video.
In April, genealogy company MyHeritage, with the help of AI, taught ‘live’ photographs to dance and send an air kiss.
