Adobe Used User Content to Train AI
Adobe automatically analyses content stored in Creative Cloud services to train AI algorithms, unless users manually opt out.
Okay, we know… We made fun of Adobe when its cloud service went down. We’ve made fun of Corel Painter and Clip Studio. We joined in the protest No AI Generated Images protest. We made our stance on NFT’s clear. But this is beyond making fun of. This is EW! EW! EW! pic.twitter.com/40wBWYci7V

The Krita Foundation, an independent open-source group for artists, uncovered the corresponding clause in the privacy policy. According to the document, ‘[Adobe] may analyse content using machine learning […], to develop and improve products and services.’ Users automatically grant the company access to their data.
A detailed examination of the content analysis FAQ shows that the policy was updated in August 2022. It applies to images, audio, video, text or documents stored on Adobe’s cloud servers.
The company emphasised that it does not review materials that are processed or stored locally on users’ devices.
According to словам of an Adobe representative, the policy in question has existed for more than ten years. The company provides users the option to exclude their content from analysis, he added:
“We give clients full control over their preferences and privacy settings.”
The company also noted that it does not use user data to develop experimental features.
“We are currently reviewing our policy to better define the use cases for generative AI,” said an Adobe spokesperson.
The company does not yet have its own service like DALL-E 2 or Midjourney. However, developers have allowed users to sell generated images on the Adobe Stock marketplace.
In October, the company unveiled AI features for Photoshop and Lightroom.
In June, Adobe developed a neural filter to restore damaged images in its photo editor.
