AI Startup Safe Superintelligence Valued at $32 Billion
The AI startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI), co-founded by OpenAI’s Ilya Sutskever, has raised $2 billion at a valuation of $32 billion, according to Financial Times, citing sources.
Sutskever left OpenAI in May 2024 following an unsuccessful coup against CEO Sam Altman. In June, he announced the creation of his own company, Safe Superintelligence, which in September raised $1 billion.
At that time, SSI did not disclose the company’s valuation, but media reported it to be $5 billion. Investors included Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, and NFDG.
In the latest funding round, Greenoaks invested $500 million, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Andreessen Horowitz.
SSI aims to develop AI models that are significantly more powerful and intelligent than their competitors. According to the Financial Times, the company focuses on unique methods for developing and scaling neural networks.
In December 2024, Sutskever predicted the end of the era of pre-trained artificial intelligence and forecasted the emergence of superintelligence.
