AI Tool Emerges for Undetectable Assistance in Interviews and Exams

A developer has created the AI tool Cluely to assist in interviews and exams, capable of bypassing control and cheating detection systems.

“I was expelled from Columbia University for creating Interview Coder — an AI for cheating in programming interviews. I raised $5.3 million to create Cluely — a tool for cheating in literally everything,” wrote the firm’s CEO Roy Lee on LinkedIn.

Cluely, powered by ChatGPT, listens, watches, and provides real-time answers during video calls.

The program is available on Mac, with a Windows version in development. It operates in the background, bypassing detection tools to aid in passing interviews and exams.

“The program exploded after I posted a video using it during an interview with Amazon. In the process, I realized the user experience is truly intriguing — no one has yet explored the idea of a semi-transparent screen overlay that sees your screen, hears the sound, and acts as a second player for your computer,” noted Lee.

Cluely gained attention after a video was published showing a man using the tool to generate responses and gather social media information about his date. Lee noted that such use is not its true purpose, but the approach has intrigued people.

Schools and companies employ specialized software to monitor communication to ensure academic and workplace integrity. AI tools analyze data from webcams and browsers.

“We help people cheat” is Cluely’s slogan.

“The world will call it cheating. But so is a calculator. So is spell check. So is Google. Every time technology makes us smarter, the world panics. Then it adapts. Then it forgets. And suddenly it becomes normal,” states the project’s website.

Lee emphasizes that Cluely’s true goal is to change the approach to human-machine interaction, starting with what is perceived as ethically acceptable.

In April, the popular mobile dating app Tinder launched an AI-based game to train flirting skills.
