Aksakov: Russia could issue first digital financial assets by the end of 2022
The first digital financial assets (DFAs) in Russia could be issued by the end of the year. This was stated at the Moscow Academic Economic Forum by Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market.
“We expect that, perhaps, even this year the first DFAs will be issued, and they will gradually form the basis for financial settlements on the blockchain, not only for financial settlements but also to ensure that the whole picture of relationships between companies is in this distributed ledger,” he noted.
Two more platforms are being prepared for registration.
Aksakov also said that, in the near future, a bill on digital currencies prepared by the government is expected to be submitted to the State Duma.
The official noted that authorities “seem to have reached an agreement” on legalising mining, and the need to regulate “energy consumption, energy supply, and to crack down on illegitimate companies that create problems for energy use in certain regions.”
The law on DFAs was enacted in 2020 and took effect on 1 January 2021.
The status of operator of the information system for the management of DFAs has been granted to platforms Atomyze, ‘Sberbank’ and ‘Lighthouse’.
