Aksakov sees no future for Bitcoin

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies without a single issuer have no future, says Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma committee on the financial market. He said this during an online conference “Digital technologies in business: legal regulation and protection of innovations.”

In his view, this does not apply to digital currencies such as Libra. Aksakov noted that the latter more closely corresponds to the definition of digital financial assets (DFA) introduced into Russian law.

He noted that the initial draft of the law “On Digital Financial Assets” gave far greater “market freedom” to cryptocurrency holders.

The bill was amended due to possible risks posed by cryptocurrencies.

“I see only one advantage from legalising the cryptocurrency market — additional revenue to the budget,” the official said.

Earlier, Aksakov stated that the digital ruble is “the mandatory future of monetary circulation.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin believes that cryptocurrencies and stablecoins threaten the stability of the existing financial system.
