Alibaba Cloud to open division for Web3 game development

Alibaba Cloud, the cloud-services provider, announced the launch of a blockchain-laboratory in Japan to create Web3-games, according to a press release.

According to the statement, the hub will serve as an incubator where developers can interact with each other and learn about the latest technologies. The opening is slated for April.

Partners in the initiative include real estate firm Tokyu Real Estate and the VR-content producer Skeleton Crew Studio.

In the initial phase, the ‘laboratory’ will be accessible only to select Alibaba Cloud customers. Developers from partner firms will provide advisory services and technical support.

“We provide reliable, secure and high-performance cloud infrastructure, technologies platforms and tools for developers in Japan to create games, metaverses and social networks based on Web3,” said Unik Song, the regional manager of Alibaba Cloud.

The company also announced the launch of a service for blockchain nodes by year-end.

Earlier, the Immutable platform entered into a partnership with Polygon to accelerate the development and deployment of Web3 games.

In March, the CCP Games team raised $40 million to create a blockchain-based game in the EVE Online universe. The funding round was led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
