AMC Theatres adds Dogecoin payments to its mobile app

The American cinema chain AMC Theatres has integrated the ability to pay with Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB) and other cryptocurrencies in its mobile app.

According to the company’s CEO Adam Aron, the feature was made possible thanks to the cryptocurrency processing service BitPay.

To enable the new feature, users need to update the mobile app to the latest version.

AMC Theatres — one of the largest cinema chains in the United States and Europe. It owns принадлежат more than 950 cinemas and 10 500 screens worldwide. It also operates its own online cinema.

In September 2021 the head of the cinema chain launched a survey on adding Dogecoin support. Twitter users backed the idea — in October the company integrated payment of gift cards using the meme cryptocurrency.

In the same month, Aron launched a similar survey on adding Shiba Inu support — a clone of Dogecoin. More than 153,000 people participated — more than 81% of respondents supported the idea.

In November AMC Theatres began accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin as online payment methods. According to Aron, the company will add Dogecoin support in the future.

In January 2022 AMC Theatres distributed exclusive NFTs to more than 580 000 shareholders.
