U.S. Space Force Major Jason Lowery urged the country to accumulate the first cryptocurrency and develop the mining industry. This, according to The Politico.
In his book Softwar, he proposed using Bitcoin as a “self-defence weapon” in cyberspace.
In Lowery’s view, the coin could function as a less destructive means of contest for power in the digital sector. He suggested the asset could be used as a cybersecurity tool, relying on the features of the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm.
His idea involves developing defensive software that responds only to external signals accompanied by sufficiently large transactions in the Bitcoin network.
The major also proposed extending the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to the technology of the first cryptocurrency as a self-defence instrument.
However, according to Lowery, he faces strong resistance from politicians in promoting his idea.
“Soon, influential people in the government will try to claim that backing Bitcoin poses a threat to U.S. national security,” the major wrote in a deleted tweet.
According to Dune Analytics, the total stock of the first cryptocurrency held by US authorities amounts to 205,515 BTC — more than 1% of the coin’s supply. Most of these assets were seized from criminals.
In March 2023, Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz said that Bitcoin has proven its usefulness amid a debt binge in the United States.
