According to a federal agent’s court filing, Christi Lynn Felkins used a dark-web site that offered assassin-for-hire services. The site no longer exists and was fraudulent — no criminal orders were fulfilled, and clients’ funds were embezzled.

In 2016, Christi Lynn Felkins ordered the murder of her ex-husband through the site, paying 12 BTC (about $5,000 at the time). For several months she corresponded with the site’s administrator, who found various reasons why her ex-husband was still alive. He also attempted to obtain an additional $4,000 from Felkins to carry out the order.

In January 2019, U.S. law enforcement received information about this correspondence from a foreign hacker who obtained it by web-scraping the site.

Federal agents also linked Felkins to an account on the P2P platform LocalBitcoins, through which she purchased bitcoins, as advised by the administrator of the fraudulent site.

As reported, researchers found that bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency on the dark web.
