Analysts estimate blockchain-game investment volume in Q3

The volume of venture investments in the blockchain-gaming segment for July–September reached $600 million, year-to-date $2.3 billion. The figures come from a report DappRadar.

Blockchain activity rose — the number of unique active wallets in the quarter surged by 12%, to 786 766.

While Alien Worlds and Splinterlands maintain dominant positions, new platforms like TreasureDAO and the Move-to-Earn concept are carving out their niche. This points to a diversification of gaming preferences, according to experts.

Move-to-Earn platforms in the top five by unique wallet count are Sweat Economy and SuperWalk.

In the ranking by number of transactions, leadership remains Axie Infinity, in part thanks to the latest updates. Gods Unchained is in second place, where a new season has recently started.

Trading volume in virtual worlds declined, but given substantial investments in projects such as Mocaverse from Animoca Brands ($20 million), analysts say that the concept metaverse remains a source of interest.

Analysis of activity across blockchains shows WAX dominance persisting and growth in the Skale and zkSync ecosystems. The latter is linked to a shift in preferences toward казуальных игр (casual games), released by studios such as PipeFlare and IndiGG.

Analysts noted the emergence of new participants (besides the aforementioned, also Base). Along with ongoing development, they say, this points to ‘bright prospects for the industry’.

“It can be forecast that in the next wave of development Web3-games may well be dominated by casual games,” — the experts suggested.

Experts warned of the risk of SocialFi gaining popularity, which could lead to a problem balancing user engagement across different sectors.

In September, the blockchain startup focused on games Proof of Play raised $33 million.

In May 2022, a16z launched a $600 million fund for investments in “gaming infrastructure and metaverse technologies”.
