American venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) сообщила о планах по открытию зарубежного офиса в Великобритании в конце 2023 года на фоне нормативной неопределенности в США.
General partner Chris Dixon said that the firm “is working with policymakers and regulators around the world”. He added that the talks demonstrated the United Kingdom’s desire to develop Web3-direction.
“The UK authorities are also ready to work with the industry to create rules that stimulate decentralized startups. In particular, policymakers and regulators are using an approach that is uniquely tailored to regulating blockchain and digital assets”, Dixon explained.
Among the advantages of the jurisdiction cited by a16z were:
- constructive engagement with the cryptocurrency market;
- laying the groundwork for future blockchain applications;
- an innovative approach to regulating the industry;
- a government results-oriented stance;
- strong consumer protection.
The company added that it will continue to grow its business in the United States and seek greater clarity on regulatory rules for crypto startups.
The venture firm announced the expansion amid investigations by the SEC with Binance and Coinbase. The regulator accused the platforms of trading unregistered securities.
Earlier, the Hong Kong-based blockchain games operator Animoca Brands decided to focus on “more progressive jurisdictions” outside the United States.
Solana and Polygon have criticized the SEC for classifying their native tokens as securities.
