Animoca Brands Falls Victim to Social Media Hackers

Hackers breached the X account of Animoca Brands’ head, Yat Siu, to promote a fraudulent token.

This incident is part of a series of attacks affecting profiles of the streaming platform Kick, AI assistant Cursor, World (formerly Worldcoin) co-founder Alex Blania, meme coin Brett, and the SocialFi application The Arena.

Unknown individuals sent emails purportedly from X’s support service, urging users to click a phishing link to reset access. The compromised accounts were used to advertise fake tokens.

The initial report of Siu’s profile compromise came from on-chain detective ZachXBT. According to his information, the token was promoted in Siu’s name by the same address involved in previous incidents.

At the time of writing, posts made by the hackers in Siu’s name have been removed.

In November, hackers promoted a fraudulent token from the compromised X account of rapper Wiz Khalifa, who has 35.7 million followers.
