Anthony Scaramucci called Sam Bankman-Fried a traitor

SkyBridge Capital chief Anthony Scaramucci spoke about his friendship with FTX Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) and the consequences of the exchange’s collapse for him.

During a panel discussion at Casper Labs’ Blockchain Hub event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Scaramucci answered host Michael Casey:

“I had a close relationship with him [SBF], I considered him a friend. I met his father, a Stanford professor, and with his aunt I participated with Kevin O’Leary in a charitable project in Florida. I felt close to him and his family”.

In September 2022, FTX acquired 30% of SkyBridge. In November the exchange and about a hundred affiliated entities filed for bankruptcy.

US prosecutors brought eight criminal charges against SBF, including fraud, money laundering and campaign-finance violations.

In December, the founder of FTX was arrested in the Bahamas and extradited to the United States. A New York court released him on bail of $250 million, SBF pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Scaramucci immediately warned the audience that he would not discuss financial losses.

“I must tell you that betrayal and fraud are bad on many levels. Of course, it has damaged my reputation. If anyone here has read Dante, you know what the ninth circle of Hell is for — betraying a friend,” he said.

At the same time, the SkyBridge co-founder stressed that SBF’s actions should be separated from the blockchain and cryptocurrency.

“We are trying to create a decentralized environment where you do not have to like or trust each other. We can interact in another way, basically supported by the technology,” Scaramucci stressed.

At the end of the discussion, which was titled “Not for the Faint of Heart: Reflecting on Decades of Wins, Losses, Bulls and Bears,” the head of SkyBridge said:

“I am not going to stop taking risks.”

Earlier, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao described SBF as “one of the greatest fraudsters in history.” Venture capitalist and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary came to the defense of the FTX founder.
