Apple has engaged in discussions with Meta regarding a potential partnership in the realm of artificial intelligence, according to sources cited by WSJ.
The prospective agreement involves integrating Meta’s generative AI model into Apple Intelligence.
The publication reports that Apple is also in talks with other major developers, including Google, Anthropic, and Perplexity, to incorporate generative AI. Should these negotiations succeed, users would have the option to select which external AI models to use alongside Apple’s internal systems.
Discussions are ongoing and may not necessarily result in any partnerships, WSJ emphasized.
Journalists indicate that Apple is proposing a mutually beneficial collaboration: it gains an AI tool, while the developer accesses a large user base and the opportunity to sell premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence. Similar to the App Store, the iPhone maker would retain a commission on subscription purchases.
In June, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT into Siri and other services within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as well as a broad initiative called Apple Intelligence.
Elon Musk threatened to ban Apple devices in his companies if ChatGPT is integrated, citing security concerns.
Back in April, Meta announced the launch of its free AI assistant, Meta AI, on platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
