Apple rejected Meta’s proposal to integrate the Llama AI chatbot into the iPhone several months ago, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.
The two companies held brief talks in March and did not revisit the idea. Around the same time, Apple began discussions with OpenAI and Google regarding the use of ChatGPT and Gemini in its products.
The iPhone developer dismissed the idea of integrating Llama due to Meta’s insufficiently strict privacy policies, sources added.
The Cupertino-based company considers ChatGPT a superior solution, Bloomberg claims. Google’s technologies are already used in the Safari browser, making the integration of Gemini likely.
Previously, the WSJ reported that Apple had engaged in talks with Meta about a potential AI partnership. The publication noted that the firm is also in discussions with other AI developers—Google, Anthropic, and Perplexity—to offer users a choice of chatbot.
In June, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT with Siri alongside other services in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as well as the launch of a large-scale Apple Intelligence initiative.
Later, the company postponed the launch of AI products in the EU due to “regulatory uncertainty.”
