Arbitrum Foundation Proposes Expanding Orbit Networks Beyond Ethereum

Arbitrum Foundation Proposes Expanding Orbit Networks Beyond Ethereum

The Arbitrum L2 solution community is considering a proposal to deploy blockchains using the Orbit technology stack beyond the Ethereum ecosystem.

The initiative put forward by the Arbitrum Foundation is undergoing a preliminary DAO member vote, known as a “temperature check.”

The organization noted that the expansion program launched in January allows projects to deploy EVM-compatible customized L2 and L3 chains that leverage Ethereum’s security. In return, new protocols return 10% of commission revenues to the ecosystem, including 8% for ArbitrumDAO and 2% for the Developer Guild.

“In recent weeks, the Arbitrum Foundation has received interest from projects wishing to deploy their own Orbit Chain on other networks, including, but not limited to, Bitcoin, Binance Smart Chain, Cosmos, and others. We expect the number of such requests to grow over time as this Arbitrum stack gains popularity on Ethereum,” the team stated.

Developers expressed readiness to make necessary software changes and discussed some implications of the expansion decision. They believe this move will increase DAO revenue, potentially strengthen EVM dominance, and provide a competitive advantage for the Ethereum ecosystem.

The preliminary vote will conclude on July 31. At the time of writing, the proposal has 99.86% support.

Back in October 2023, the company behind Arbitrum, Offchain Labs, opened access to the Orbit stack.
