Arbitrum Team Launches BOLD Protocol on Testnet

Offchain Labs, the company behind the development of the Ethereum layer-two ecosystem Arbitrum, has deployed the BOLD dispute resolution protocol on the testnet.

“BOLD is an extension of Arbitrum’s existing fraud protection mechanism through a fixed upper limit on disputes and a new ‘everyone vs everyone’ dispute scheme. The protocol ensures that one honest party can protect the state of Arbitrum and prevail over malicious actors,” the description states.

The developers noted that BOLD is resistant to delay attacks. This eliminates the need for a set of permissioned validators for Arbitrum One and Nova.

The protocol will undergo “thorough testing and auditing” before being deployed on Arbitrum Sepolia in late spring. Following DAO approval, the solution could appear on the main network “sometime in the summer of 2024,” the developers believe.

“These dates are preliminary and will depend on several factors, including the results of voting and auditing,” Offchain Labs emphasized.

Back in March, Arbitrum developers activated the ArbOS update, also known as Atlas. The upgrade added support for BLOB transactions, aimed at reducing the cost of transferring data from L2 to the Ethereum mainnet.
