Argentine customs seize 2,233 mining devices

Argentine customs officials confiscated a large batch of mining equipment. Local publication Ambito reports this.

The reason was a price discrepancy. Customs said that for import the equipment was valued at an average of $10,000 per unit, whereas their average cost does not exceed $7,700.

The case concerns 2,233 Whatsminer mining devices with a total value of $21.9 million. The discrepancy between the declared import calculations and the actual cost is about $5 million. A further examination will be conducted for more precise calculations.

Earlier, in Argentina, the popularity of mining surged due to ultra-low electricity prices.

In April 2022, the commune of Serodino in the Santa Fe province decided to engage in cryptocurrency mining to tackle the prolonged economic crisis.
