Associated Press to issue NFT collection to mark the agency’s 175th anniversary and its photojournalism

The Associated Press (AP) will auction ten non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to mark the agency’s 175th anniversary and its photojournalism.

The first NFT depicts an animated artistic version of the iconic photograph of six American soldiers. On February 23, 1945, they raised the U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in Japan.

The photographer was AP photojournalist Joe Rosenthal. For his work he received the Pulitzer Prize.

The non-fungible token is up for auction on the OpenSea marketplace. Bids will run until May 29, 02:00 MSK. At time of writing, the highest bid is 1 ETH.

As reported in March, AP put up for auction an NFT dedicated to the blockchain-recorded U.S. presidential elections in 2020. The auction ended on March 11. The token sold for 100,888 ETH.
