Australian police seize country’s largest-ever cryptocurrency haul
Victoria Police, as part of an investigation into drug trafficking via the dark web, have seized a record amount of cryptocurrency for the country. The Canberra Times reports.
The officers conducted six searches and arrested two suspects, seizing drugs, real estate, cash and vehicles. They seized AUD 8.5 million in cryptocurrency (about $6 million), and also froze bank accounts.
Authorities say they identified the suspects in drug trafficking using information obtained from the takedown of the Silk Road dark web marketplace.
Earlier, U.S. authorities confiscated 69,370 BTC linked to Silk Road.
