AWS Halts Operations in Russia and Belarus
AWS halts new registrations for Russia and Belarus.
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform has paused registration for new users from Russia and Belarus. The NYT reports.
“Given the current events, the uncertainty and the lack of credits in Russia, we are not taking on new Russian AWS customers,” said Drew Herdener, the platform’s spokesperson.
The changes took effect as early as March 5–6, but Amazon only announced them now.
AWS has no offices or data centers in Russia.
Earlier, the British payments processor Wirex blocked access to its products for Russian citizens.
Restrictions for users from Russia were imposed by cryptocurrency exchanges Kuna, WhiteBIT and CEX.io, as well as the largest trading platforms in South Korea — Bithumb, Upbit, Coinone and Korbit.
Binance announced that from March 10 will stop supporting transactions with Visa and Mastercard cards issued in the Russian Federation.
