Axie Infinity founder says GameFi is the key to crypto adoption

Cryptocurrencies have yet to achieve broad adoption, but the GameFi (Game Finance) segment could be its catalyst. At the Mainnet conference, Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, the developer of the popular blockchain game Axie Infinity, said.

Within the interview, the executive outlined his vision for the project’s further development, whose daily audience surpassed 1 million users, and sales volume stood at $2.1 billion.

«In the next six months we will upgrade the combat system. We are preparing a DEX. After that we aim to move Axie into a community-owned and governed game», — Zirlin said.

According to him, thanks to a DAO, players will be able to determine the developers and features to be implemented. The project’s roadmap envisions delegating authority to AXS governance token holders.

The co-founder of Sky Mavis also announced Axieland, a mobile version of the popular strategy game Clash of Clans for mobile devices. In it, players will also gather resources, build cities and fight for territories.

Zirlin expects increased competition in the space with the emergence of new indie-studio developers. In his words, they will have an edge in speed of execution.

Earlier in September, the Huobi Group’s investment arm announced the launch of a new fund with a budget of $10 million for investments in promising Game Finance projects.

According to DappRadar, the share of DeFi-protocols in the traffic of tracked dapps from May to August decreased from 45% to 18%, conceding ground to projects in the GameFi and NFT segments (45% and 41% respectively).
