The Bank of Ghana is at an advanced stage of developing the national digital currency (CBDC). This was stated by regulator head Ernest Addison at a press conference.
According to the official, Ghana has become the first country on the continent to begin studying the concept of a central bank digital currency.

Advances in CBDC development became possible after the February launch of a regulatory sandbox in partnership with Emtech.
Addison also touched on cryptocurrency assets. He stated that they are “not capable of effectively performing the functions of money”.
In PwC retail CBDC ranking the top three were the Bahamas, Cambodia and China.
