Base Celebrates Second Anniversary Since Launch

On August 9, 2023, the Base mainnet became publicly accessible. The protocol team congratulated the L2 network on its second “birthday.”

According to the on-chain observer, the total value locked in the solution’s smart contracts grew by 8781% over the past year, reaching $4.46 billion.

The number of active users increased by 1280% over the same period, reaching 1.25 million. The peak daily figure was recorded on June 20, 2025, at 3.59 million users.

Transactions increased by more than 2000%. The average daily figure over the past 12 months was 7.5 million.

Network fees have also decreased. Transactions on Base became nearly twice as cheap compared to the previous year, dropping to $0.005. At certain times, transaction costs fell below $0.001.

Earlier, on August 5, Base’s infrastructure experienced a failure, causing block production to halt for 33 minutes. Developers have promised to implement fixes.
