Base Creator Envisions Future of Crypto Economy in Local Stablecoins
Stablecoins tied to local currencies remain rare, yet they could revolutionize the crypto economy.
Stablecoins tied to local currencies remain rare, yet they have the potential to revolutionize the crypto economy. This was stated by Jesse Pollak, the developer of Base, during Token2049 in Singapore, as reported by The Block.
The Need for Diversity
The expert noted that today’s digital economy is almost entirely denominated in US dollars, which account for about 60% of global reserves. Dozens of other currencies, which are also significant in global finance, are scarcely represented in the crypto space.
The Base creator emphasized that stablecoins tied to “local currencies” could simplify everyday financial transactions.
“If we integrate local currencies into the blockchain, people will be able to transact, borrow, and lend in the currencies they are familiar with,” he explained.
The expert reported that in September 2025, Base processed about 81 million stablecoin transactions, equivalent to $1.5 trillion.
According to him, the platform already supports the Indonesian rupiah, Turkish lira, New Zealand dollar, Brazilian real, and other currencies. Earlier, Coinbase and Base also announced the launch of two new currencies: the Australian and Singaporean dollars.
Base App: A Super App for the New Economy
Pollak also discussed the beta testing of Base App. The platform combines social networks, mini-apps, commerce, and instant payments, with a focus on the “create and earn” model.
According to the Base creator, traditional Web2 platforms are unfair to content creators, taking about 95% of the value and leaving creators with less than 5%. In blockchain-based social networks, nearly all profits go to developers.
Currently, 1.2 million users are on the Base App waiting list, the expert noted. The team plans a full launch of the app in the coming months.
“We are still in beta testing but are actively working towards the release,” Pollak added.
Back in March, Base introduced Flashblocks technology and two new tools.
