Base to Boost Mainnet Speed Tenfold with Flashblocks

The Layer 2 network Base has implemented Flashblocks technology in its testnet, reducing block creation time from two seconds to 200 milliseconds. The project team announced this at the ETHDenver 2025 conference.

The mainnet update is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2025.

Flashblocks enhances transaction processing speed by streaming pre-confirmed blocks every 200 milliseconds, thereby reducing the risk of transaction reversals.

The technology was developed in collaboration with Flashbots, known for its Ethereum solutions and work with MEV. Previously, Flashblocks was applied by DEX Uniswap, reducing block time in the Unichain network to 0.25 seconds.

Alongside this, the Base team introduced two additional tools: Appchains and Smart Wallet Sub Accounts.

Appchains are customizable blockchains built on top of L2 Base using the OP Stack. They function as third-level networks (L3) and provide dedicated block space for scaling applications.

Appchains support customization, including their own gas tokens and fee logic, and are aimed at high-load applications.

Smart Wallet Sub Accounts will allow users to manage multiple wallets through a single interface.

Back in January, Eric Voorhees’ AI platform Venice AI released the VVV token on the Base network.
