Basler Kantonalbank to offer clients Bitcoin investments
Basler Kantonalbank, backed by the cantonal government of Basel, will offer clients the opportunity to invest in Bitcoin next year, according to Finews.
The offer for trading and safekeeping of digital assets will be launched by the bank’s subsidiary Cler.
The publication noted that Basler Kantonalbank will become the first cantonal bank in Switzerland to enter the cryptocurrency industry. Currently, the digital-asset sector in the country is dominated by crypto banks Seba and Sygnum, with traditional financial players, including Falcon and Maerki Baumann, also present.
The bank noted that the move toward cryptocurrencies reflects demand from a younger clientele seeking investments in digital assets.
Cler has already hired cryptocurrency expert Alena Kurtz, who heads the company’s digital assets division.
Earlier, Switzerland introduced unified standards for storing cryptocurrencies.
