Beijing authorities have fully integrated the digital yuan into the payment ecosystem as part of improvements to CBDC testing.

At the outset of the trials in June, the capability was available only in the Yitongxing mobile app. Now it has appeared at all 428 stations across 24 metro lines for ticket purchases and top-ups of transit cards.

In terminals, the option to pay with digital yuan now sits alongside cash and the WeChat Pay and AliPay payment systems. The same option is available at service counters.

To top up the CBDC transit card, you will need to scan a payment QR code using digital wallets.

Earlier, ICBC ATMs in Beijing added the option to convert the yuan into its digital version.
