The Belarusian Minister of Energy, Viktor Karankevich, described mining as an interesting direction and said that authorities are studying the prospects for developing this kind of activity. This is reported by the Telegram-канал of the ministry.
He noted that mining is being developed successfully in several countries, mentioning China, the United States, Canada and Russia.
“This is a new direction for us. It is interesting, but in order to begin with it, a comprehensive study of this issue is necessary. This includes an assessment of the possible risks associated with such activity. We are working on it,” said Karankevich.
Back in 2017 Belarus signed a decree legalising mining activity.
In 2019, Alexander Lukashenko proposed building a large data centre for mining near the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
