Bill Gates outlines his stance on Bitcoin

Microsoft co founder and one of the world’s richest people, Bill Gates, told CNBC in an interview that he does not own the leading cryptocurrency and holds a neutral stance toward the asset.

“I don’t own #Bitcoin. I’m not short Bitcoin,” says @BillGates. “I do think moving money into a more digital form and getting transaction costs down, that’s something the Gates Foundation does in developing countries.” https://t.co/Td917idvqn pic.twitter.com/AsycxLv1bL

“I don’t own Bitcoin, and I don’t have short positions in it,” Gates said.

He also pointed to the volatility of digital gold and noted that he cannot forecast its future development.

The Microsoft co-founder acknowledged the importance of reducing transaction costs. According to him, the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation is also working with “digital forms” of money, while all transfers are fully transparent.

In February 2018, Gates attributed real-world deaths to Bitcoin. In a Reddit session he said the digital asset is used to buy drugs.

In the same year, the businessman called the leading cryptocurrency one of the most speculative things in the world. He added that he would short Bitcoin if there were an easy way to do so.

In response, Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss explained to the Microsoft founder how to open a short position.

Recall, billionaire Mark Cuban called Bitcoin as a store of value, rather than a means of payment.

Earlier, the founder of the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates and crypto-skeptic Ray Dalio said that the leading cryptocurrency became interesting as an alternative to gold. Later his firm allowed for investments in the digital asset.
