Microsoft founder Bill Gates, during a AMA-session on Reddit, expressed skepticism about the value of Web3 and metaverses. He called artificial intelligence a truly revolutionary technology.
One of the users asked the billionaire whether Gates currently sees a breakthrough technology as significant as the Internet was in the early 2000s.
«Artificial intelligence is the strong thing. I don’t think Web3 was that big or the metaverse itself revolutionary, but AI — yes, definitely», — the billionaire replied.
He added that he spends most of his time on healthcare innovations, agriculture and other initiatives with shorter-term prospects.
In May 2022, while engaging with Reddit users, Gates said he prefers to invest in companies that deliver real value. Cryptocurrencies are not in that category, he explained the absence of digital assets in his portfolio.
During the latest AMA, Gates confirmed that he owns 1/4000 of the US farmland or about 1000 km2. According to Forbes, he is the largest owner of arable land in the country.
Earlier Gates saw in Bitcoin a problem for the global climate due to the carbon footprint associated with the operation of the network.
Earlier, in June 2022 he criticized NFT, calling the assets based on the greater-fool theory a scam.
