Billionaire Carl Icahn signals readiness to invest more than $1 billion in cryptocurrencies

Carl Icahn, founder of Icahn Enterprises, in an interview with Bloomberg, spoke about planned “large-scale” investments in cryptocurrencies.

In the past, the Bitcoin skeptic noted that he views digital gold as a store of value, and Ethereum — among other things — as a payment system.

He also believes that most issued digital assets will disappear over time, but overall they will remain in one form or another.

“At present I do not own cryptocurrencies and I do not think they are necessarily worth buying. I am studying how Icahn Enterprises can participate in a ‘serious’ way. These assets will remain in one form or another”, — said Icahn.

The billionaire stressed that cryptocurrencies are gaining popularity due to rising inflation, and any criticism of them “in some respects is incorrect”.

“What is the value of the dollar? Its only value is the ability to use it to pay taxes”, — explained Icahn.

When asked about the size of the investment, the entrepreneur declined to give a precise figure.

“One billion dollars, one and a half billion dollars, something like that. I won’t say exactly”, — he explained.

Earlier, Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio said that invested in Bitcoin. In his words, the devaluation of the U.S. dollar was the reason for such a decision, which creates attractive conditions for investments in cryptocurrency.
