Billionaire David Rubenstein doubts cryptocurrencies will disappear

Co-founder of the Carlyle Group David Rubenstein, on the Invest Like the Best podcast acknowledged that he was skeptical about cryptocurrencies, but his view has since changed.

According to the investor, he previously believed that there was nothing behind Bitcoin and Ethereum.

“Now it’s clear that many young people don’t think there is anything behind the dollar, euro or other currencies,” noted the co-founder of Carlyle Group.

He stressed that he had not bought cryptocurrencies, but “invested in companies that serve the industry.”

“The genie is out of the bottle, and I don’t think the industry will disappear in the near term,” he said.

Rubenstein also pointed to the Ukraine crisis as an additional reason for his renewed optimism about cryptocurrencies.

“If you are in Ukraine or Russia, and your country has many problems, and you want to have some assets, holding some cryptocurrency will likely make you feel better when there is something outside government control,” noted Rubenstein.

In May 2021, the Carlyle Group co-founder ruled out the disappearance of cryptocurrencies. He said digital assets would remain part of the financial landscape for a long time.

In April 2022, philosopher and psychology professor Jordan Peterson called Bitcoin revolutionary, but it raised concerns.
