Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has joined Chainlink Labs, the oracle provider, as a strategic adviser.
Schmidt will oversee the firm’s scaling strategy as it uses oracle networks to run smart contracts.
Beyond Google, Schmidt served as a technical adviser to Alphabet, chaired the US Department of Defense’s Innovation Board, chaired the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, and sat on the boards of Apple, Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Mayo Clinic.
Forbes estimates his net worth at about $24.3 billion, making him one of the wealthiest advisers to a cryptocurrency company.
Schmidt has been an early advocate of bitcoin. He was introduced to the cryptocurrency by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2011.
Earlier, Schmidt described bitcoin as “a remarkable cryptographic achievement.”
In October, the Chainlink oracle network welcomed the Associated Press. The node launched by them will give developers of decentralized applications access to data gathered by the organization.
In August, one of Switzerland’s largest telecommunications companies Swisscom joined Chainlink.
