Billionaire Rick Caruso's company to accept rent payments in Bitcoin.

The American development company Caruso, owned by billionaire Rick Caruso, will begin accepting Bitcoin as rent for residential and commercial real estate. According to the firm’s press release.

Caruso also announced a partnership with the Winklevoss brothers’ cryptocurrency exchange Gemini. According to the release, this will allow the developer to use digital assets, non-fungible tokens and blockchain applications to attract customers.

“This partnership […] demonstrates Caruso’s firm belief in the future of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies,” the company said.

Under the agreement, the company invested a portion of its cash reserves in the leading cryptocurrency. Caruso founder Rick Caruso told the LA Times in an interview that it amounts to 1% of the firm’s capital. He declined to disclose the amount invested.

Caruso currently owns and operates properties in California, including the The Americana at Brand mall in Glendale. One of the tenants is Elon Musk.

Caruso did not rule out that in the future the Tesla founder could begin using Bitcoin as a means of payment.

“I haven’t spoken with Elon about it, but he could be the first to pay rent in Bitcoin,” the billionaire added.

In March 2021, Musk announced the start of sales of electric cars Tesla for digital gold. Currently the option is available only to U.S. buyers.

Earlier, in February it became known that Tesla invested in Bitcoin $1.5 billion. Later Elon Musk called the investments quite risky and hinted that it was not his decision.
