According to Ricardo Salinas Pliego, founder of Grupo Elektra, such a possibility will come ‘soon’. The network counts 1,143 stores in Mexico and in other Latin American countries.
In addition to the retailer, the conglomerate also includes Banco Azteca. Earlier, the billionaire said that the financial institution could begin accepting bitcoin. In the future, the authorities of Mexico warned of possible sanctions and reminded that cryptocurrencies are not legal tender.
In November 2020 Salinas Pliego said that invested 10% of his liquid portfolio in bitcoin. Forbes estimates his wealth at $15.6 billion (at the time of writing).
As of January–July, the capacity of the Lightning Network grew by 70% — from 1,058.68 BTC to 1,806.38 BTC. At the time of writing the metric stood at 2361,32 BTC.
