Binance explains whether it will leave Ukraine after Bittrex

After Bittrex’s exit from Ukraine, the local community asked whether other trading platforms would follow suit. ForkLog asked for comment from several market players, among them Binance, FTX and currency.com.

«At the moment there are no regulatory reasons for Binance to stop serving residents of Ukraine in the foreseeable future», said Gleb Kostarev, Director for Binance in Russia and Ukraine.

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, the reason for Bittrex’s decision was precisely the regulatory peculiarities in the United States and Liechtenstein, namely the difficulty of identifying residents of Crimea among Ukrainian users.

Some community representatives believe that under a similar pretext Bittrex could leave the Russian market.

Currency.com said they do not plan to leave Ukraine and will add Ukrainian language support in the near future.

«At present there are no regulatory reasons that would justify us not serving Ukrainian clients», commented Nikolai Markovnik, Director of Growth.

The derivatives exchange ftx.com also does not plan to update the list of prohibited jurisdictions.

On September 11, Bittrex notified about its withdrawal from Ukraine and a number of other countries, including Belarus, Burundi, Mali, Myanmar, Nicaragua and Panama. Later, the exchange clarified that the problem lies in the regulatory framework of the listed jurisdictions.

The head of Ukraine’s leading bitcoin exchange kuna.io, Mikhail Chobanian thinks the departure of Bittrex is natural, given the political instability in the listed jurisdictions.

Earlier, on September 25, Roskomnadzor notified Binance of its inclusion in the list of banned websites. Binance is preparing to challenge the decision in court, and lawyers believe that it was adopted with procedural irregularities.
