Binance Founder: Utility Trumps Token Issuance for AI Agents
Not every AI agent requires its own token, according to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). He suggests that instead of issuing coins, projects should focus on practical utility.
On AI agents, I have an unpopular opinion:
While crypto is the currency for AI, not every agent needs its own token.
Agents can take fees in an existing crypto for providing a service.
Launch a coin only if you have scale. Focus on utility, not tokens.?

CZ’s comments come amid a general downturn in the cryptocurrency market. The capitalization of assets related to AI agents has dropped by 61%—from $70.4 billion in December 2024 to $27 billion in March, according to CoinMarketCap.
“Launch a coin only if you have scale. Focus on utility, not tokens,” CZ urged.
Back in February, experts from Sygnum Bank noted that cryptocurrencies associated with AI-based agents could become a new trend in 2025, though they remain predominantly speculative assets for now.
