Binance Withdraws Defamation Suit Against Forbes

Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange, has withdrawn its claims against Forbes Media and two of its journalists — Michael del Castillo and Jason Brett. This is evidenced by a filing dated February 4, 2021, in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

The trading platform voluntarily withdrew the complaint, with the option to refile on the same grounds. The judge approved the decision on the same day.

The suit was prompted by Forbes publication allegedly about plans by the trading platform to use Binance.US to distract American regulators and extract hidden profits from users.

The journalists claimed that a document titled “Tai Chi Education” was developed by a former employee of the exchange, Gary Zhou.

After the article’s publication, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao stated that the facts presented were not accurate. According to him, the document was not prepared by a former or current employee of the company.

Earlier in November 2020, the cryptocurrency exchange demanded compensation from the publication for publishing material containing ‘defamatory statements’.
